Terrorism and the Impact of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) on the Colombian Government (Digital Report: 29 Pages)
Terrorism in Central America and Latin countries has been on the radar as a hotbed of insurgent activities throughout the 1980s and 1990s before being replaced by the terrorism of Muslim extremists. The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) is a key terrorist group in Colombia that has long sought to be a political force for the poor and underclass within its borders. This research attempts to uncover the history, philosophy, funding sources, tactics as well as the future of FARC and its impact on Colombia. If the long term goal of many insurgent groups is to either replace the current government or become a political force to be reckoned with like Lebanon’s Hezbollah, is FARC aligned to be such a force within Colombia? This paper seeks to analyze and synthesize FARC’s actions and strategies for its long term aspirations.
